๐ Chapter 7: Coordinate Geometry – Class 10 Maths Notes
๐ Introduction
Coordinate Geometry allows us to locate and measure points using (x, y) on a 2D plane.
๐งญ 1. Cartesian System
The plane is divided into four quadrants by X-axis and Y-axis. Origin = (0, 0).
๐ 2. Distance Formula
Formula: √[(x₂ - x₁)² + (y₂ - y₁)²]
๐ 3. Section Formula
If P divides AB in m:n, then:
P = [(mx₂ + nx₁)/(m+n), (my₂ + ny₁)/(m+n)]
๐งฎ 4. Midpoint Formula
M = [(x₁ + x₂)/2, (y₁ + y₂)/2]
๐บ 5. Area of Triangle
Area = ½ |x₁(y₂−y₃) + x₂(y₃−y₁) + x₃(y₁−y₂)|
๐ง Key Concepts
- Distance formula → distance between two points
- Section formula → point in a given ratio
- Midpoint → divides line into 1:1
- Area of triangle → check collinearity
